Depending on the Kindness of Strangers

Dear reader,

The time of my last entry saw me desperately hunting the internet for the names and contact information of Kalimantan writers in order to make inroads into the new topic of my academic curiosity: Kalimantan literature. I am extremely happy to report that desperate efforts have met with kindness and willingness to help!!! For this I am very grateful! And excited, which you might be able to tell from the profusion of exclamation marks!!

Tri Wahyuni Rahmat was kind enough to answer an email from a complete stranger who wanted to know more about Kalimantan literature and its recent developments! She has contributed to an anthology of short stories by Kaltim women entitled Badadai and came up with the idea for, co-edited, and contributed to Kehamilan yang Menakjubkan [roughly, Miraculous Pregnancy The Miracle of Pregnancy]–a collection of personal stories about pregnancy. She very, very kindly offered to introduce me to other Kaltim authors as well.

Next steps: continuing to depend on the kindness of strangers and figuring out details for my trip to Kaltim!
